Determine the Width or Diameter for your chandelier
- Measure the length and the width of the room.
- Add the two measurements.
- Convert the measurement unit from feet to inches.
The inches will be the Width or Diameter for chandelier.
For example:
16 feet (Room Length) + 8 feet (Room Width) = 24 feet; The chandelier should be about 24 inches for its width or diameter.
Step 2Determine the Height for your chandelier
- Measure the room height, from the installation site to the floor.
- Multiply the room height by 2.5 or 3.
- Convert the measurement unit to inches.
The inches will be the Height for chandelier.
For example:
11 feet (Room Height), 11*2.5 = 27.5 The chandelier should be about 27.5 inches for its height.
Step 3Determine the Hanging Height according to the location
- Over Open Floor:
The bottom of the chandelier should be at least 7 feet above the floor.
- Over a Dining Table:
The bottom of the dining chandelier should be 32-34 inches away from the tabletop.
- Round Chandelier:
To determine the diameter of a round chandelier by the size of your table, we generally recommend that the diameter of the chandelier should be between 1/2 and 2/3 of the width of the table.
For example:
Your dining table is 32 inches in width.
The diameter of the chandelier should be between 16 (32 x 1/2) to 21 (32 x 2/3) inches.
- Rectangular Chandelier:
For a rectangular chandelier, its length and width should be between 1/2 and 2/3 of the length and the width of the table.
For example:
Your dining table is 32 inches in width and 72 inches in length.
Then, the length of the chandelier is between 36 (72 x 1/2) to 48 (72 x 2/3) inches, and the width is between 16 (32 x 1/2) to 21 (32 x 2/3) inches.
Two-Story FoyerIn an open foyer, the chandelier may be at eye level or slightly below when viewed from the second floor. So consider a staircase & foyer chandelier that would look eye-catching from all angles, even from above.
HallwayChoosing the right size of hallway chandelier should be determined by the width of the hallway.
- Measure the hallway’s width.
- Multiply the hallway’s width by 2 to 2.5.
- Convert the measurement unit to inches.
The inches will be the Width or Diameter for chandelier.
For example:
The hallway’s width is 5 feet. The chandelier’s diameter should be about 10(5 x 2) -12.5 (5 x 2.5) inches.
